Expedition Skills

Cost: £179 per person.

Prerequisites: Participants should be able to paddle a loaded sea kayak in moderate water conditions.

Description: The aim of this module is to cover the essential elements of good expedition planning and preparation. Participants will also explore the practical techniques of fishing, foraging, fire skills, shelter building, cooking and water sourcing The emphasis of the course is to cover the skills needed to enjoy multi-day expeditions including how to effectively paddle and potentially rescue a loaded sea kayak. This course forms part of the ISKGA Coastal Guide development pathway.

The following aspects will be covered: • Expedition Logistics and Planning • Group Dynamics & Customer Service • Emergency Action Plans • Rescue Strategies • Equipment • Packing A Sea Kayak • Campsite Selection • Shelter Construction • Water Sourcing & Purification • Fire Skills • Sourcing Food & Foraging • Hygiene • Coastal Wildlife & Ecology. This programme may include a night exercise.
